Troublesome Times « Thread Started on Aug 19, 2008, 7:01pm »
Date and Time: August 26th, 1933. 9 O’clock AM. Setting: Cairo Station, Djed train. Weather Conditions: Rather hot. Notes: I know we’re supposed to be moving towards September….but this thread just didn’t seem right to start in September. Oo; And sorry if it’s cut off. I’m working on getting my muse back. ._.;
Lying within one of the carts of the Djed train had laid a troubled Evelyn. The event that had occurred earlier had seemed to be far more than expected, for she had already gone through a similar matter before when she refused to cooperate. Sadly that had not been the main thing on the woman’s mind, but more so what had been going on with her family at the time. That seemed to be one of her biggest concerns and seemed to haunt her endlessly with their status. The main questions that had arose had seemed to be where they alive? If they were alive why hadn’t they come to get her? Was this a payback for wanting to go on yet another adventure after having almost lost them once before? Those questions alone seemed to ring through Evelyn’s head without even sparing a moment to glance around the room.
Her mind had seemed to soon drift back to that horrid day when she had been stabbed by Anck-su-namun, leaving the rest of her family to mourn over her loss within the middle of yet another deadly race. It had almost seemed as though that alone was an unexpected happening, for her being stabbed, but it also seemed expected as well. She could remember everyone’s faces from that moment when she was finally lost, and now she began to feel the exact same way towards them, uncertain as to whether or not they were still alive for she did not know of the outcome of the event that happened earlier that morning. All she could remember was the sudden battle cry of the Medjai, and before she could even respond to the battle cry everything seemed to have turned black. What was the outcome of that battle? Why did she suddenly have a blackout right when it was about to begin? With that thought, Evelyn began to sit up straight on the couch that she still seemed to be lying on. Then a sudden thought had come into mind. There had still been Djed in the room. Perhaps there was a small form of chance in getting information out of them? She could only wonder.
“What is the status of the Medjai?” Evelyn questioned the four Djed within the room; however the only response she would receive was a puzzled look on faces and them instantly returning back to their routine. That alone seemed to be rather expected, for it seemed as though idiocy had come across Evelyn at that moment, but perhaps she could work her way through their thick headedness and attempt to get an answer. “You were there weren’t you? Or are you four simply cowardly of revealing your mistakes when facing against the Medjai?” Evelyn questioned once again, this time with a rather firm expression on her face, determined to receive some form of answer from a somewhat appropriate source. She could not risk asking Imhotep or Anck-su-namun the status of the Medjai, for Evelyn was uncertain as to whether or not they would have told her the truth or a lie, and chances were they would probably tell her a lie. She wanted the truth and nothing but the truth at the time and would settle for nothing less. The only thing that she had hoped for at that moment had seemed to be that the Djed weren’t as smart as the Medjai, and if they were then she was in far more trouble than she could possibly imagine.
“It is none of your concern of their status.” A Djed spoke from across the room, however his eyes did not seem to wander towards her, and they had seemed to be parked right at their original spot. It seemed as though the other Djed were smart enough to not respond to her question. But the moment that the Djed had spoken an expected moment of silence had occurred throughout the room.
This was bound to be a tricky subject to receive an answer from, but without a moment to spare, Evelyn quickly lied back down onto the couch and returned back to her thinking position. If she was to receive an answer Evelyn had to find out ways to get the Djed to speak. Perhaps with the time that she had with them she could trick them into responding to her. The only thing she had to figure out was how to start a conversation without starting a problem.

Hidden within the shadows of the next cart adjacent to Evelyn's, a mysterious figure stood ominously. Hands held behind his back and with a watchful manner, he observed the woman within the next room. His eyes stared closely with a spark of sinister intent through a crack within the sliding door.. It had been a few hours since she had been knocked unconscious for her insubordination in which that time he had desired to perform his task that would alter her memories. Unfortunately, Imhotep was unable to due to the sudden appearance of the nuisance of the Pharaoh. Already irritation caused by the fool was beginning to build up within, though it would not show. Because of his unexpected arrival, the long-awaited conversation of the vital information on the amulet's location was abruptly ceased. Not to mention, the time rarely spent with Anck-su-namun was cut short also. Even the presence of Seti I was beginning to aggravate him, or perhaps it was the jealousy gnawing away at him. Imhotep did not enjoy sharing his mistress with another. And aware that it had led to the Pharaoh's demise nearly three thousand years ago, he was eager to finally rid of him for good this time. If he was to bide his time though, the patience would pay off. As the fairly enduring creature as he was, Imhotep found this rather difficult to wait out.
The High Priest's attention focused back to Evelyn who seemed lost and troubled once more. Perhaps now he could coax her as opposed to using physical harm against her. However, he was aware this would most likely take more time for her to open up, for she'd been beaten because of her stubborn nature, and there was nary a chance she would wish to share willingly. There was no doubt she was still apprehensive of her family's current condition. After all, all he'd ever told her was lies. In response to this, Imhotep would've enjoyed giving her false hope and crushing it down right before her eyes. Perhaps sparking illusive hopes of her rescue would catch her attention necessary for her demise. The abrupt question of the Medjai's status was a pleasant surprise to his scheme. This caused his pink lips to curl into a grim smile. The same inquisition that would be her downfall. It was such a blissful situation. Imhotep would receive what he wanted with the pleasure of Evelyn unaware that this question would be her last as the old O'Connell she once would know.
Within the silence of the Djed unanswering, Imhotep swiftly moved to open the sliding door, but was refrained when another minion replied back in a cold manner. He ceased all movements whilst still hidden in the next car. His grin grew wider with her unexpected defeat and incompetence. When the room grew still once more with the exception of the train humming against the tracks, the High Priest quickly moved in stealthily, his sinister smirk abruptly disappearing. All that remained was an emotionless mask ready to penetrate all forces of Evelyn and her insubordination. Now what he thought would capture her interest was in perfect sync to her question she would have never thought would have betrayed her. Ready to catch the only gaze he may for quite some time, Imhotep gracefully strode down the aisle of her room and in answer to her question he brought it up very nonchalantly, though enough to show he was absolutely serious. His coal black gaze turned to the Djed who'd previously responded to Evelyn. The minion's gaze did not lift upward out of pure respect for his master. Hopefully this would catch her off guard, enough to look at him finally.
"Perhaps because they are closing in, we should turn and eliminate the nuisances." Imhotep said very gravely though without any emotion on his face and hardly within his tone. The Djed looked back up though did not glance directly in his master's eyes. Curiosity was evident within the minion's features, as to question why the High Priest would desire such a thing. He dare not ask, though, as the quick look upon Imhotep's face warned him. As that was only a mere decoy to lure her into a larger snare, the Creature quickly averted his coal black gaze in hopes of catching his prize within his premeditated ploy. Her curiosity would cause her own destruction, and Imhotep would enjoy every moment of his long awaited wrath. Instantly, he clapped his hands together rather loudly and all of the guarding Djed departed obediently. Silence wrapped the train once more, the eerie manner of silence no one should ever wish to harken, the manner of a quite dangerous game.

There was a sudden concealed form of irritation that seemed to be hidden deep within Evelyn the moment he had entered the room. If there was one person, if not two people in the world that she would rather not see, it was him and his beloved. She was fine being confined to a room with the Djed, for she knew that they were also afraid of the horrifying Creature that was before them. She also knew that she had a better chance of getting answers from the Djed, rather they had been ordered to hide everything from her or not. There were in fact, a few tricks up her sleeve that were just waiting to be pulled. She however would have to wait until the right moment if it was to ever come, for now it had not been the best of time to actually do anything with the Creature in the room.
The sound of the railroad tracks seemed to echo throughout the room, and from observing the room itself, she had already figured that they had been within that of a train. There was only one vehicle in which moved in a tremendous speed with various corridors on each side of the room as well as furniture that almost seemed to match that of a bedroom or a house at that. But moments ago, she heard something in which she had greatly wished was just pure imagination. She had heard him speak of what she had believed to be her family, let alone the rest of the Medjai catching up to them. She was excited on that part; however when he had continued to speak Evelyn immediately shifted her head towards him.
Now it was an immediate form of panic, however Evelyn forced herself to hide it. She could not allow him to see that she was frightened; she had to remain perfectly calm. But there was something within Evelyn that just made her wants to launch at him, and or immediately take a run for the exit even if it was blocked by Djed. Then an immediate flashback had occurred within her mind as she’d remember his levitation abilities, something in which she alone knew that there was no form of point in trying to even do anything. Evelyn would rest her back against the wall once more as her body previously plunged forward, almost as if she was expecting herself to get up and move towards him. She had to remind herself that there were chances that they weren’t there. There were chances that he was probably lying; however she could not tell what a lie was or what the truth was. Then again maybe she could, for which matter Evelyn would immediately turn her head towards the wall on her side of the room. Her hands immediately crossed over one another, trying her hardest to not seem so timid.
This particular adventure from what Evelyn had been experiencing was the worst of the worst. Death was much more pleasant than agonizing about her families’ safety endlessly, not to mention it was much more pleasant when she was fighting side by side with her beloved ones where she knew she was safe. Perhaps this was why when she was so worried about Alex’s condition in their previous adventure. Perhaps this was why when every moment she was alone she was concerned for his safety. Now she began to wonder: were they concerned about her own? As far as she could remember from when she was as Nefertiri, she could remember that many were troubled by her appearance. She however could not tell particularly if any had been truly concerned as there had always seemed to be a form of irritation whenever she had made an appearance. But all of this had been brought upon that of her own, for Evelyn knew that by getting into another form of adventure that something was bound to happen. It was something that came along with the package, something in which she greatly resented even if she still went along with it for the thrill of the adventure.

The Creature remained calm as he finished, earnestly desiring her to even glance his way. He knew because his commands did not have an effect on Evelyn, Imhotep was now forced back into treachery. Either way, he did not mind, as his sadistic personality allowed as such. She was to blame for her own demise and instead as always chose the difficult way out. Mortals were so foolish, and perhaps too gullible. When he himself lived back more than three thousand years ago, the High Priest thought himself naught as others were. His own loyal priests followed without any tentativeness in the least, as he was able to deceive even Seti I. Or perhaps Imhotep himself was just a cunning sadist who was adroit in manipulation. Whatever it may be, he knew he was superior and advanced to the others, but he found difficulty to maneuver around the damned O'Connells, the abominable wastes of space they were. But Evelyn's wretched husband or allies could not help her now, for she was under his control.
Just as he'd predicted, her chocolate eyes flashed his way with panic she could not hide from him. That small glance only mere seconds long provided him with all he needed, for it was enough to perform what he wished. Imhotep could not help but grin insidiously in triumph. His dastardly plains with avail could now commence without interruption. With the Djed absent from their presence, the only sound to be hearkened was merely the continuous hum of steel wheels against matching train tracks and perhaps occasionally a muffled shuffle from adjacent carts. Her timid posture only added to the tension of the particular room, causing the air to become heavy with an omniscient tone. Evelyn could hold the facade of a brave woman all she wished, but she could not hide herself from him. Imhotep could see behind the mask. She was just as frightened and disgusted by him as any other was. However, her troubled mind greatly contributed to his wicked arrangement. The High Priest found this somewhat amusing. Only the more to persuade her with.
Imhotep's coal black eyes locked with Evelyn's. She could not afford to look away from him now, for he would not allow her. Already prepared to initiate the awaited scheme that would surely prevail, he began to search her most private thoughts and memories. Those recollections from the very beginning of her past life as Nefertiri or of her father? They were gone. Those of ever searching for treasure in Hamunaptra and meeting Rick? Erased. Again he continued his search as he sifted through the woman's mind. Those of ever having spawned the atrocious child he'd once taken captive were also deleted. Even the immoral memories of grudges and the duplicity of Imhotep and his mistress Anck-su-namun's deceitful acts of murder against Evelyn herself were wiped entirely. The only real memories he would keep consistent were those of her knowledge of the amulet and its location, her remaining knowledge of Egypt and its past, and that of her family's abandonment. If Imhotep so wished to persuade her into crossing her over, he would need his victim naive, innocent, and vulnerable. By reverting her nearly pure, his plan would fall into action far easier.
However, those of her erased memories were replaced with lies. Of course, Evelyn would still recall Imhotep and Anck-su-namun, but they would be relied upon and friendly. Perhaps they could even be considered companions. To start her with their utmost trust, it could lead things more plausibly. But the High Priest made a mental note. He knew Evelyn quite well though without becoming close to her, oh no that would never be until now. But she was an unnaturally curious little nuisance, and there was no doubt she would continue to grow inquisitive by their actions. They would have to behave themselves around her and give her the right sense as to what was happening Imhotep would need to be cautious around Evelyn, specifically while in the presence of the Pharaoh himself. They needed naught such a petty error that could've effortlessly been prevented. But what to do with Seti I? The High Priest predicted a clash if he still believed Evelyn was his daughter and she had not an intimation as to what he meant. He was aware he did not have the power to keep them asunder as he wished, and that could potentially create a problem.
After finally finishing his deed, Imhotep moved to seat himself directly beside her. By now Evelyn was in a vulnerable state, for she was equally distraught over the sudden desertion. He played fake empathy, sympathizing with the woman. Surely this would create an easy distraction to entice her. "Do not mourn, it is we who are your true family." His voice was low with compassion though he did not feel this way in the least. Imhotep's coal black eyes searched her own sorrowful, chocolate ones and his thumb rested upon her chin as he tried to lift her spirits. Of course, he did not expect her to return the anticipated favor. There were a few moments of silence before Imhotep rose from his position and looked back at Evelyn once more. If anything, hopefully his statement was reassurance for her. Deciding to let her think on it, he abruptly left the room to share his triumph with Anck-su-namun. Their insidious plan was finally in play.
Silently, the Creature made his way into the next cart where Anck-su-namun would reside. His usually lifeless and cold eyes now held victory within them. And when his bright glance landed upon the beauty before him, his lips curled into a rather smug smirk. Imhotep stopped only inches from Anck-su-namun with intoxicated lids caused by her mere presence. His hand moved to gently cup her face. "It is done." he simply said, though with a more insidious tone. The deed was done, and this time it would not fail.

Anck-Su-Namun decided to wait in a light slumber as Imhotep had left her in the car. When she first had woken up, the female had stood up and stretched her lithe body with her hands rising up high as if trying to reach the ceiling. Once she had done her daily rituals and not wanting to interrupt Imhotep from whatever it was he was doing with Evy and honestly Anck-Su-Namun did not wish to walk in and find them in an awkward position, it’s not that she did not trust Imhotep, it is that she did not trust herself if she were ever to see anyone near ‘her man’ regardless if it was an innocent action or not. Now if she knew it wasn’t well let’s just say that there would be Medjai all over the Egyptian desert trying to find each body part of the Ex-Princess. Deciding that it would be best to occupy herself in other thoughts, instead of what she would do to whoever laid eyes on the Priest, Anck-Su-Namun decided to sit down on the floor once more, and as she did, the long tails of her coat spread around her as she watched the door.
Unknowingly in her waiting she had fallen into a light slumber which caused her to miss the opening and the closing of the door and yet she opened her eyes slowly as she felt the hand of her lover on her face a she spoke. Her dark orbs shifted from left to right as she searched his eyes as well taking in a deep breath, “It is done?” she repeated slowly, not exactly a question but not exactly a statement either as she slowly remembered the prior plans they had discussed concerning the princess. A smile spread across her slight golden lips as she placed her hand upon his, “It is done then.” This time it was an affirmation of his statement and the utter glee she felt at the meaning behind it.
